Shores Lake Description

From Mulberry take Arkansas 215 north for 15 miles, then follow Forest Service Road 1505 for 0.5 mile. Are you ready for an Ozark Mountain adventure? Shores Lake is an 82-acre lake in the Ozark mountain vacation setting of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. Construction of the dam at Shores Lake began in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corp and was completed in 1958. A cooperative effort between the U.S. Forest Service and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission helped complete the structure. Facilities and activities in the Shores Lake Recreation Area include 19 single and four multiple-unit campsites, flush toilets, showers, drinking water, 28 family-unit picnic sites, group picnic sites, swimming, boating boat launch ramp, and pavilion. While boats are allowed, the maximum boat motor size is 10 horsepower. Camping trailers are allowed, but no special facilities are available. It is a fully accessible facility for the physically challenged (including the bathhouse, pavilion, swimming beach ramp, and fishing piers). The 13.4-mile Shores Lake Loop Trail is a wilderness showcase of upland hardwoods and shortleaf pine groves. It treats hikers to views of waterfalls and wildlife, rugged mountain scenery and spectacular rock bluffs in the heart of the Boston Mountain Range of the Ozarks. Fishing: The lake is stocked with bass, catfish and bluegill. Underwater structures were built to attract fish to the fishing piers.
