Pawtuckaway 7/16/11
Club tourny at Pawtuckaway lake on a bright Sunny July Day Started out extremely slow as my partner Lee and I did not so much as have a tap or anything for the first 2 hrs. We did not get too desperate until 10 am and with no keepers we moved into a small northern cove with a dam. A slight current and the deeper water of a channel leading to the out flow provided us with 8 keepers all in the 2lb range. My fish were caught on texas senkos and a sidewinder worm. Lee's on a Spro frog and wacky senko. By Noon feeling a little more confident we traveled around to deeper water spots in the southern end of the lake, carolina rigged, jigged, and cranked with not a bite to show for our efforts. With 2 hrs left we returned to the 100 yard strech where our other keepers had come from. We found some short bass biting and I was able to catch a coupla more 2lbers to make up a bag of 9.7 lbs, Lee could not come up with that 5th keeper and went to the scales with a bag of about 5 lbs. Matt who stayed up in the Shallows and stuck to his spro frog pattern, came in with big bag of 11.1 lbs for 1st place, I took second, Brian came in 3rd with 9 lbs. Air temps got up to 90 and the water in the shallows was 79-81 degrees. This is a beautiful lake to fish, and usually gives up lms in the 5lb range and even has smallies as a bonus. Dont understand the slow concentrated bite as we were in a tailing full moon cycle, our baits were screaming eat me! and we chucked and cranked continuously. Go Fish!
